Benfleet and District Historical Society
The Society was started in 1955 and since then has enjoyed a successful series of regular monthly meetings (usually during the winter) covering historical matters both local and national.
During the summer months outings are arranged by the Outings Secretary to local historical sites and buildings.
The Society partakes in the annual Rochford Hundred Lecture held, on a rotating basis, in Rochford, South Benfleet and Canvey Island.
The Society is responsible for staffing and displays at the Dutch Cottage
Museum at Northwick Corner, Canvey Island. It is open to visitors on Sundays
from 2.30 to 5pm from the spring Bank Holiday to the end of September plus
the summer Bank Holiday at the end of August. In addition, the Cottage is
open on Wednesday afternoons (2.30 to 5pm) during July and August.
Private visits can be made by arrangement through the Secretary
